Strive to become a benchmark enterprise in the global photovoltaic industry

Gokin Solar Powers Ceremonial Flame Lighting for the 15th National Games
Publisher: Gokin Solar Release time: 2025/10/10

On 9 October, Gokin Solar provided the clean energy system that powered the ceremonial flame lighting for the 15th National Games and the National Games for Persons with Disabilities. The flame was sourced from combustible ice located 1,522 metres beneath the northern South China Sea — marking the world’s first deep-sea flame collection. This achievement not only added a technological highlight to the Games but also demonstrated China’s growing capability in applying renewable energy innovation to large-scale national events.

Clean Energy Chain: Light, Electricity, and Flame

For the ceremony, Gokin Solar deployed its high-efficiency BC photovoltaic (PV) modules alongside a custom solar-tracking system. The system converts sunlight into electricity, which is transmitted via specialised subsea cables to operate equipment on the seabed, creating a complete “light–electricity–flame” clean energy chain. This allowed the symbolic concept of “drawing light from the sky to ignite fire in the sea” to be realised in a zero-carbon, environmentally responsible way.

The core GBC-3-54HGDb back-contact modules employ a busbar-free rear electrode design, delivering higher conversion efficiency, stronger low-light performance, and improved tolerance to partial shading (Revised: Oxford comma added for clarity in the technical list). Combined with a real-time solar-tracking mounting structure, the system maintains optimal alignment with the sun throughout the day, significantly extending the period of efficient power generation.

Zero Modification and High Adaptability

Installing a PV system on a marine research vessel presented distinctive challenges, including limited suitable surface area and strict restrictions on modifying the vessel’s structure. Following detailed assessments and joint planning, the Gokin Solar team mounted the system on top of existing deck containers, achieving the required performance without any alteration to the ship itself — meeting the goal of “zero modification and high adaptability.”

To further address variable solar angles at sea, the installation incorporated rotating mounting brackets, enabling dynamic adjustment to maintain the optimal angle of incidence. This ensured stable and continuous energy supply for the deep-sea flamework operations.

Rapid Deployment

The entire project — from system design and materials to final installation — was delivered within six weeks. With the vessel allowed only a single day in port, Gokin Solar pre-assembled the system as an integrated unit at the factory, minimising on-site time and ensuring commissioning ahead of departure.

This milestone reflects Gokin Solar’s commitment to innovation and its role in supporting global carbon reduction ambitions. As one of the few companies in China capable of mass-producing BC technology PV modules, Gokin Solar continues to advance clean, efficient, and scenario-specific renewable energy solutions — from urban rooftops to deep-sea exploration.
